Wow, our tavern sandwich meal was a big success. Thanks to all who came and to those that helped. Sheila said the meal cleared $400 and the bake sale $160, all after expenses were taken out.
The Episcopal Church elected Nevada Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori as their first female chief pastor of the denomination and the first female leader in the history of the world Anglican Communion. More than a quarter of their 2.3 million parishioners are age 65 or older.
Our Nebraska annual conference was held in Kearney the second full week in June.
In the did you know department: France quarried more stone for cathedrals than Egypt did for all of their pyramids.
And, Sir Walter Isaac Newton was known as the biblical scholar of his time. He was the one involving an apple and gravity. It was stated that he was one of the greatest scientists of all time, but spent more time on scripture than on science.
Mickella Pihlgren and I played out a Russian spy scene recently. I blame my recent birthday and the advance of age for forgetting my duties. I was supposed to pick up the bulletins for B.C. at First Church on Friday night for the Sunday service. Late Friday night I remembered. So, I left a message on the church answering machine regarding my dilemma. I was on the way to Wisner on Saturday morning when Mickella called on the cell phone.
She said the church was usually locked so I wouldn’t be able to get in that afternoon. She said she would put them in a plastic bag and leave them under the park bench on the south side of the church. She was very wise because before I got back to Norfolk it was pouring, but the bulletins were there and dry. Thanks Mickella.
Have a great celebratory 4th of July. B.C. had some wonderful fireworks in June.
